Szczecin and Western Pomerania are still too rarely included in travel itineraries, including those of German visitors. At the end of June, Julia Weigl, author of a blog and social media profile of the same name, discovered that this is completely unjustified.
Upon arriving in Szczecin, our protagonist quickly immersed herself in the atmosphere of the city on the lower Oder with the help of a guide. She visited the rebuilt Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle, admired the panorama of the city from the tower of St. James’s Basilica, strolled among the sumptuous Wilhelmine tenement houses in the city centre, and tried authentic Szczecin paprykarz. In the following days, she moved to the seaside, where she stayed at 2Stodoły Chillout – designer cottages hidden in a pine forest in Dziwnów.
Julia remembers the time spent on the island of Wolin, marked by the crisp Baltic breeze, as unforgettable. Just before the start of the main season, the promenade in Międzyzdroje, the viewpoints on Kawcza Góra and in the hillfort in Lubin still exuded tranquillity, and the sun and warm breezes from the sea encouraged endless walks.
