Cycling boom

Many residents of Krakow and Małopolska are eagerly following the expansion of the region’s cycle route network, such as the Vistula Cycle Route and Velo Dunajec. In spring 2025, the 20 million users of the popular German outdoor app Komoot had the opportunity to see this for themselves when Carola “Bandit” Kessler, who collaborates with Komoot and runs the Lady Outdoors blog, set off through the forested peaks of the Beskids.

Mountain loop

The 457-kilometre loop Carola completed in four days ran through the valleys of the Vistula, Dunajec, and Skawa rivers, with its highest point at the Krowiarki Pass below Babia Góra. The lush greenery of April, combined with the still snow-capped Tatra peaks, created an unforgettable setting for her expedition. She noted the well-maintained route, mostly separated and designated exclusively for bicycles, the network of comprehensively equipped cyclist service points, and even a vending machine with juices from a local pressing plant near Łącko.

Explore Małopolska

Her journey along Velo Małopolska routes showed how much this region, the most visited by foreign tourists in Poland, has to offer beyond Krakow, the royal salt mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia, and Zakopane.
